Development Needs & Value Proposition

(1) Problem Definition / Development Background

  • Conventional plastics create microplastic pollution and long-term environmental burden.

  • Some bioplastics, such as PLA, often require industrial composting facilities and may not degrade easily in diverse natural environments.

  • Commercial applications need biodegradable materials that also provide heat resistance, stiffness, toughness, and processability.

(2) Value Proposition / Solution

  • REO™ provides a PHA-based material solution that is biobased, biodegradable, and microplastic-free.

  • The material can degrade naturally in diverse environments, including marine ecosystems and home composting conditions.

  • Dasiwave improves PHA’s commercial usability through compounding, phase control, and crystallization technologies.

  • REO™ helps replace petroleum-based plastics in consumer goods, packaging, agricultural film, aquaculture, and 3D printing.

Competitiveness

  • True Biopolymer: PHA is synthesized by microorganisms and provides a circular biopolymer alternative.

  • Natural Degradation: Designed to return to nature without leaving microplastics or toxic residues.

  • High Heat Resistance: REO™ achieves HDT of approximately 110–130°C depending on grade.

  • Mechanical Performance: REO™ shows bending modulus of around 1,600–2,000 MPa, comparable to ABS and superior to PP.

  • Processing Versatility: Applicable to injection molding, cast film, thermoforming, and 3D printing.

  • Certified Marine Application: Developed Korea’s first and only officially certified marine-biodegradable buoy material.
